Dear SCV Food Pantry Adopt-A-Family Donor,

We are very excited to introduce a new program for distributing food and gifts to our neighbors in need this Holiday Season. We know that the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry alone does not reach all the needy families who live in our valley at the holidays – even with generous donations from people like you!

This year, we are joining forces in a community wide effort to reach as many families as possible – and to allow the families to participate in providing for their children. Participating agencies include the SCV Food Pantry, Single Mothers Outreach, Domestic Violence Center and the SCV Community Center. Hosted by the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Department, The Community-wide Holiday Toy Drive will be collecting toys and gift certificates to be distributed to local families in need.

The Sheriff’s Department will host a “storefront,” located at the former Chamber of Commerce offices, where volunteers will stock and help distribute donated toys and gifts. Each family currently receiving services from participating agencies will be able to “shop” in the storefront and take home three gifts per child. Additionally, each qualified family will be invited to donate $1.00 per gift to the storefront. The money will be used to purchase gift certificates for other children – particularly for teenagers. This small contribution will allow families to help others who are also in need.

What does all this mean for you as a prior donor to the Adopt-A-Family program? Simply this, we are asking you to support the Community-wide Holiday Toy Drive by donating toys and gifts certificates. We are also asking that you help us provide food to our neighbors in need during the holiday season.

We have enclosed a sheet detailing the new program and outlining the Food Pantry’s Grocery Store Gift Card project. We think you’ll agree that the Toy Drive will reach more children at the holidays than ever before while simplifying your “to do” list during a hectic time of year. Last year, our highly successful Adopt-A-Family program – through your generosity – adopted 170 families with a total of 522 children. The Community-wide Holiday Toy Drive is expected to reach at least 3,000 children. Our combined efforts will surely make the holidays brighter for many more children.

Our participation in the Community-wide Toy Drive will help us to focus more of our efforts on what we do best—meeting our commitment that “no child in the Santa Clarita Valley should go to bed hungry.” We appreciate your past generosity with the Adopt-A-Family program and look forward to your enthusiastic partnership in this exciting new community-wide toy distribution.
