Our mission is to alleviate hunger throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.  We accomplish this with a dynamic group of volunteers who source donations, package nutritious food to stretch a family's food supply and distribute that food to qualifying residents of the SCV.

Our ultimate goal is to meet the current and future hunger needs of our neighbors in need and ensure self-sufficiency through active partnerships with other organizations throughout the community.

The Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry is seeking sponsors for the 21st Annual Run/Walk Against Hunger and 1K Kids Run scheduled for Sunday, October 26th. Various sponsor levels are available. All proceeds help provide supplemental food to those less fortunate in our valley. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested a Santa Clarita woman after a fight with her in-law led to an alleged false police report Thursday, officials said. Tania Pena, 56, of Saugus, called sheriff’s deputies to her mother-in-law’s house on the 23300 block of Lady Linda Lane, after an argument, according to Sheriff’s Station offiicials. “We responded to a 911 call, and the woman calling said her mother-in-law was pointing a shotgun at her,” said Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Santa Clarita Christian quarterback Jonathan Saavedra opened the high school football season in record-setting fashion.

He accounted for nine touchdowns, seven passing and two rushing, in his team’s 68-20 win over Lutheran High of Chula Vista.

Saavedra passed for 529 yards and seven touchdowns, both school records. Four of his touchdown passes went to Cameron Lewis.

A Santa Clarita teen received a 45-day jail sentence for petty theft Friday, after requesting a trial on two charges for a Walmart burglary and losing the case. Joseph Munoz, 19, of Canyon Country, was accused of going into the Walmart on Carl Boyer Drive with the intent to steal. “He was found guilty on two counts -- petty theft and second degree commercial burglary,” said Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. “Both (charges) are misdemeanors, and in both, the victim is Walmart.”

Lancaster Sheriff’s Station deputies are searching for a man suspected of committing carjacking, kidnapping and attempted murder Friday night, authorities said.

The suspect, an adult black male, allegedly kidnapped the male victim and stole his vehicle at knifepoint at approximately 10:48 p.m. at the Chevron Station located on 4th Street in Lancaster, according to a Sheriff’s Station news release.

Two College of the Canyons football players were killed Friday in a car crash that also left a third football player in critical condition, college officials confirmed.

The deceased victims were identified as Isaiah Hastings, 19, of Lancaster, and Alexander Manu, 18, of Reseda. The surviving victim was identified as Eldridge Salguero, 18, of Van Nuys.

There seems to be little standing in the way of the stock market rising these days. Through the first 4 trading days of the week the market is up 275 points.

Despite all of the doom and gloom predictions that the markets were going to get hurt as the Fed continued to taper their stimulus program, none of that has come to be.  Additionally, mortgage rates were expected to have risen by now.

What is interesting is that just this week mortgage rates hit the lowest point in a year according to Freddie Mac.

Weitzeil is making her debut on the United States national swim team.
